I’m sorry for not writing last week. Super Bowl Sunday came so fast I forgot midweek it was coming. Then I forgot once more over the weekend! So my family and I spent Sunday together and then rushed to grab and prepare food for the game. Poor planning, a forgetful mind, and being rushed can do that to anyone lol. This is one of the many good reasons for looking deeper at 2 Timothy 1:7.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” NKJV
God has given us the spirit we need to survive this world but we can lose sight of that truth while living in this fallen world. Going through my week I needed to hear this truth from the Lord. I get so side tracked even though I am a person who seeks God. Yes, it’s possible to seek God daily but still allow the distractions of life to make you lose focus. 2 Timothy is filling my heart with the truth that’s needed to manage my life. I already have the 3 most valued treasures woven into my spirit. You have them too. Let me tell you the 3 most valued treasures for any woman.
Power- we have the spirit of power woven within us believers. (Amen to that!) Power given to us by the Holy Spirit to overcome temptations and our weak flesh. Power to receive wisdom from the Father through Christ Jesus. Power to discern and make wise decisions. The power of faith in our Savior who is our gateway to Heaven.
Love- it resides in our spirit. We don’t have to train to love others, because God already gave us this ability. We do have to practice giving and receiving love. We model Jesus, our trusted Friend, who showed us what true love is and how it should be given. He died so that we can be free. Knowing this about Jesus and about our ability to love, encourages us to freely give, true love, to others. Practicing love strengthens our willingness to give it, our knowledge of love, and our acceptance of love from God.
A Sound Mind- we contain the ability to be disciplined. Many times we feel the need to read a book on how to be self controlled, how to be organized, how to be disciplined, and so on. This may be news to you as it was for me, but God gave us the spirit of self-discipline. I know scriptures that encourage us to be disciplined and obedient, but they are just that. They’re reminders and encouragement to follow what God has already implanted in you. We don’t need to walk around saying “I need to learn how to be more obedient to the Lord.” We only need to listen to our convictions. We have pre-installed alarm clocks and messages that go off in our brains that urge us to spend time with God. These messages can guide us, steer us, and lead us to being obedient, self-controlled, and disciplined. We have the sound mind of good sense installed in our system. We just have to listen.
No need to fear ladies. You have all that is needed to float. Even what is needed to swim like an olympic medalist. No need to be timid either, because God has supplied and equipped you. I like the way the New American Standard Bible says 2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.” NASB
Showing the world that we are fearful or timid is against the very nature God instilled in us. Let’s practice truth always and in all ways. Amen?
