Day 4, Chapter 4:
“Look straight ahead, and fix your eye on what lies before you.” -Verse 25. January is always mixed between new beginnings, new goals, new plans for the year and also closing out the end of last year. Recovering from Christmas gifts, decorations, visitors, travels, back to school, and work. But Solomon is saying, look straight ahead. We don’t need to dread the end of Christmas season or be desperately thankful for the end of 2014. We can be at peace and resolve to say it was all an experience and be grateful for those experiences. Now looking forward. “When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble. Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.” -verses 12 & 13. So where are these instructions? Well they are in the bible, which requires daily reading and can be fun in a reading plan from the Bible app. These instructions come from those God placed in our lives, parents who follow Jesus, pastors, church leaders, writers, bloggers (hint hint), friends or husbands that follow the Lord and have a relationship with Him. God uses so many ways to reach us, He knows we are all different and have different methods of listening. Some of us can’t sit still for long or concentrate too long on one thing so He reaches us various different ways. But the one consistent way is the bible and it is vital to our spiritual health. As Solomon says, “my instructions…are the key to life.” I want to encourage us all to make the pledge to read our bible daily. By reading through proverbs with me, you are fulfilling that pledge for January (way to go!!) and you can easily download the Bible app which has tons of reading plans. Also some of my favorites are from Proverbs31.org ministries and Crosswalk.com. You can literally pick a topic and have a bible plan surrounding that need or topic in your life. God has placed so many vessels for us to connect with Him, it’s completely intentional girls! But wait, I want to make sure to point out the warnings in chapter 4. “For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble” -verse 16. Be mindful that not everyone is there to lift you up. We don’t have to be scared or accuse those around us, but let’s be wise and heed the warning. There is evil in this world and it has many faces and comes from many directions. We have to be prayerful and deliberate in our time with God, so that we can be protected and be prepared for such things. Evildoers will purposely try to make you stumble. How do we ward against that? With the Whole Armor of God of course! See Ephesians 6:10-18. Read it, feel it, take time to digest it.
Dear Lord, we are blessed for this day. We look forward to the path you set for us. Please help us not to stumble and protect us from evildoers. We are able to come to you because of your son Jesus and we are so grateful for Him. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus name, Amen. “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs 4:23 NLT
